Hightown is a small village located in the New Forest district of Hampshire with Ringwood being its nearest town situated approximately 0.8 miles northwest of the village. The village is situated southeast of Ringwood, where the land rises to 60 metres, and straddles the border of the New Forest National Park. The Elm Tree is the village’s only inn and is known to be the monthly meeting place of the Wessex Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club.

To the east of the village lies Hightown Common, which covers an area of 16 hectares (40 acres). The Open Spaces Society acquired the parcel of land in 1929 in memory of George Shaw-Lefevre, 1st Baron Eversley, who founded the society. The area was later passed to the National Trust, which also includes a memorial seat designed by architect Elisabeth Scott.
