Regents Park is a neighbourhood in Southampton named after a large house and grounds that previously occupied the land. The current Regents Park Road follows the path of the former Carriage Drive, and a gatehouse that once guarded the entrance still stands at the junction of Regents Park Road, Waterhouse Lane, and St Edmunds Road. The area was initially redeveloped with Victorian-style “villa” houses in the northern part of Regents Park Road, followed by later Victorian and Edwardian properties. The southern part of the road was developed with 1930s-style semi-detached and detached houses, which extended west to King George’s Avenue, 
north to Oakley Road, and south to what is now the main Millbrook Road. Although the description is loose, this area is now generally known as Regents Park, which may also include the housing between Oakley Road and Shirley High Street/Romsey Road, where the former Regents Park girls’ school is located, now Regents Park Community College. Most of the area is private housing, and it is sometimes considered part of neighboring Millbrook or Shirley. Regents Park borders Millbrook to the west, Shirley to the north, and Freemantle to the east, with Southampton’s container port and Southampton Water to the south. The Southampton City Scout District headquarters is located in this area.
