Thornhill, identified as an area of social disadvantage, was selected along with 38 other areas across the country in 1999 to participate in the New Deal for Communities program. The program, Thornhill Plus You, was overseen by a board consisting of 12 local residents and 8 representatives from various relevant agencies such as the police, primary health care, city council, and chamber of commerce. With a budget of nearly £50 Million allocated over a decade starting in 2000, the program funded a wide range of projects to benefit the community.
One such project was the Eastpoint Centre located in Burgoyne Road, Thornhill, which commenced construction with a turf-cutting ceremony on Tuesday 29 June 2010. The centre, now operational, serves as a central location for both businesses and the community. It features state-of-the-art conference facilities spanning three storeys and 3,770 sq. m. The centre also offers training space, a social club, and a restaurant area as part of the Thornhill redevelopment initiative.
